The ThumbAround Ext. Bust. Cont. isn't a beginner trick. But in my opinion it's a good looking trick!

As soon as you get comfortable with your BackFalls you can do them continuously. You might even think about a harder version where you get back to the first Backaround with a PinkyIndexBackaround 1.5-2.5.
By the way: I personally like to call this "Waterfall" but that's not an official name.

You can do it with the other fingers too but IndexArounds are normally the easierst to learn.

One of the first tricks most people (want to) learn is in Penspinning is the ThumbAround.
In this short video I show you how to do it.

You don't always have to use mods. Yes, most things might be easier with it but you can also spin regular pens like this Schneider Slider.
Oh and it's a great writing pen, too!
__________
Pen used: Schneider Slider Rave XB

One of my favourite tricks is the ThumbAround Extended Continuous. Take your time with it!

There are diffrent names for this trick but because I'm from the oldschool I'm going with the "breakdown" method: it's a Neosonic 12-T1 to fl. ThumbAround Reverse Continuous and can't be learned quite fast - even though it might look a little bit awkward at first and not as fluent (as most tricks and combos in Penspinning).

The Fingerpass is one popular trick in schools and universities that can be learned quite fast plus you can end this trick in a writing position.

The Fingerpass is one of the basics tricks and thus one of the first you'll learn. But it's also a great example that being able to fingerpass isn't the same as mastering them. With practice and time you can to it so much smoother and faster which makes it look so much better.

The BackAround to fingerless ThumbAround Reverse Continous is a smooth looking trick/minicombo that can be done continously as long as you want.

Can you spin the Draupnir Spear from God of War?
Well, in some way you can, yes. And with some practice you might be able to pull off some harder tricks too but the drop rate is high!

This videos show a single combo from 18 years ago done by myself. Even though it had better quality than many or even most other videos back then it's still hard to watch. Low resolution, no clean background, other movements (cat) and to far away. But there where no smartphones so we used webcams, for me the Playstation 2 EyeToy USB Camera which I mounted somehow above me. I always needed something brighter than my desk because otherwise the lighting wasn't just strong enough to get a "clean" image. I often had to use something on my legs to - it's actually weird that it turned out that good with a darker cat lying on top of my legs. And well, at least I had no money for a better webcam or even a camcorder. But this didn't stop me from recording!

Struggling with learning? You might doodled before in class and there is a reason for it: movements like drawing and writing help the brain to learn better because it can create more "connections". It's like you remember a situation when you hear a specific part of a song you heard back than in this situation.
Some people do need something in their hands to turn their energy into focus - that's why fidget gadgets are so popular. But you actually don't need them because you can use a regular pen and learn some tricks. Helped me a lot and does still. :)

The Neo BackAround 12-34 starts as the regular Neo BackAround but ends between the pinky and ring finger.
It’s easier if you tilt your hand a little like you would if you want to turn your hand palm up.

The Demon's Sonic: A hybrid between a (Twisted) Sonic and a Pass.
A cool looking trick moving up the hand without much effort but definitly with style.

The Twisted Sonic Rise: A Twisted Sonic 34-23 followed by a Twisted Sonic 23-12.
It can't be a little bit awkward at first trying to get a good looking Twisted Sonic 34-23 because the Pinky and Ring Finger are usually not that flexible and need some training first.

The Sonic Jump: It's a Sonic starting in 34 and ending in 12.
The rotation "jumps" over two fingers instead of one, that's why it's called Sonic Jump or Sonic 2x. Besides of that, it's done as a regular sonic.
//ThumbNail is created with AI.

The Devil's Around is similiar to the Devil's Sonic but goes around your middle finger which makes it a Hybrid between Twisted Sonic and BackAround Reverse.
//The ThumbNail is created with AI.

It doens’t need much to train your brain so challenge yourself and start spinning!

The NeobackAround 12-23: A NeobackAround that ends not at the same place but in the next spot between you middle (2) and ring (3) finger.
It's done like the NeobackAround (12-12) but with a slight tilt and with lifting your ring instead of your middle finger to catch it.
//The ThumbNail is created with AI. Everything else is not.

In this video I show you how to name the fingers and the position of the hand. This is important to know to communicate with other pen artists and to write down combo.
//The ThumbNail is created with AI. Everything else is not.

The Scissor Spin: Regulary starting between your index and middle finger you let the pen spin a half motion on your index finger.
In this example I started with a Twisted Sonic (palm down) because of the look and the smoother motion you get with it because you already have momentum from the Twisted Sonic so it might even be easier.

The Double Charge Reverse: a Double Charge but with reverse Charges.
You'll probably need some time to get a smooth round motion instead of "wobbling". But it comes with time.

The Half Tap Reverse: Doesn't look like much but can be useful.
The Half Tap Reverse can be learned quite fast and even though it might not seem like much of a trick it can be useful, for example to change direction or get into some BackArounds.

Penspinning is a unique art of contact juggling - the art of spinning a pen! It comes with a lot of positive aspects as it improves your concentration, your focus, finger flexibility and more.
It's a great way to train your brain, keep your hands busy and calm down, even though you will I to get a much higher frustration tolerance at first. ;)

The NeobackAround: A BackAround but instead of spinning around the back of your index finger, it spins on the back between your index and middle finger and ends where it started.
The NeobackAround might look quite similiar to the Shadow Reverse but if you look closley, there are diffrences and they are done in diffrent ways. even though you can catch a NeobackAround like a Shadow Reverse.

The BackAround: It's called so because it goes around over your back.
A good way to get into the back of your hand - opens up quite a few options.

A little fun video I made to test a new pen. But yeah, Penspinning can look like something not from this world!

The Shadow 12-23 is like a regular Shadow but ends between your middle and ring finger.
If you can do the regular Shadow just keep your middlefinger up, the pen should almost automatically end right.
Also visit my YT- and IG-Channel (@happy.penspinning)

The Shadow Reverse: A Shadow but it spins clockwise.
It might help to do some Charge Reverse at the beginning to get momentum and a feeling for the Shadow Reverse.
Also follow my YT- und IG-Channel (@happy.penspinning).

The Sonic Reverse: Well, it’s a Sonic but in reverse.
Some people find it’s easier than the regular Sonic. But you have to try for yourself.
Also follow my YT- and IG-Channel (@happy.penspinning)!

The Devil's Sonic: A so called hybrid of Twisted Sonic and Shadow.
This trick combines to tricks - it starts with a Twisted Sonic (palm down) but instead of passing it up it goes right into a Shadow. If you want you could say it's a Shadow where you get your momentum by a Twisted Sonic motion.
Also follow me on my YT- and IG-Channel (@happy.penspinning).

The ThumbSpin 2.0: Like the TS 1.5, but with a half spin more.
As you can see, you can increase the spins of this trick. With much practice there are 10 spins and more possible!
Also visit my YT- and IG-Channel (@happy.penspinning)!

The ThumbAround Extended: A ThumbAround that spins a bit further around your index finger.
Another beautiful trick which later can be done continously.
Also visit my YT- and Instagram-Channel (@happy.penspinning).

The Shadow: First trick of a new trick category.
It's also the first trick you do with your palm down. You start with a charge but let it go so it can spin on top of your index und middle finger. At the beginning it's easier to get some momentum by doing full charges but soon you'll be able to do it the right why.

The fingerless ThumbAround: it's called so, because you don't use a finger to push it.
Fot the fl. TA hold the pen at the end between your index and thumb. As there is no finger to push it, you need to gain momentum with some hand motion.
Also visit my YT- and Instagram channel (@happy.penspinning)

The TA Harmonic: A beautiful trick/combo! Never gets old or boring.
After you mastered the ThumbAround and the ThumbAround Reverse, it's time to combine them. A trick that can be easily done without paying much attention - at least after some training.
Also visit my YT- and Instagram Channel (@happy.penspinning).

The RingAround: We already have the Index- and MiddleAround so now it's time for the RingAround!
It's basically the same as the Index- and MiddleAround but much harder because normally our pinky and ring finger are not that movable. But with some training this will change and it's actually important to do so, because it opens up so many more possibilitie
Also follow my YT- and Instagram-Channel (@happy.penspinning)!

The ThumbAround Reverse is a ThumbAround but it spins in the opposite direction. A clean catch can be tricky at first but it’s worth the effort because it unlocks the beautiful ThumbAround Harmonic.

The Double Charge: A Charge that you pass up, let it charge and pass the pen down right away again.
In this video I show you the Double Charge. A cool looking trick and basicly just a Twisted Sonic that you pass down again into a Charge but before passing it down you let it charge between your middle and index finger. It won't look very smooth at first but as soon as you get it down smoothly, you will love it!!

__________

The Sonic Rise: Actually a little combo of two Sonics in a row.
In this video I show you the Sonic Rise, which is done by doing two Sonic. One starting between your pinky and ring finger, the other one between the ring und middle finger.
The first Sonic can be tricky and it will take some practice that the Rise will look good and fluently. But it's a great start to train your pinky and ring finger for more advanced tricks!

The ThumbSpin 1.5: It's a ThumbAround with an extra 0.5 spin.
You might wonder why it isn't called "ThumbAround 1.5". Well, there is a little very specific difference but just for now: it spins on your thumb, so it's a ThumbSpin. It's full rotation is 1.5, so it's a 1.5 and not just a 0.5 spin. Try to get the centre of the pen directly onto your thumb.

The Twisted Sonic: Often used and just nice to look at.
A so called 'hybrid' between a charge and a pass because you start the charge and after the half you pass it up between your index and middle finger. It's like a sonic with a twist.
Also visit my YT-Channel @happy.penspinning and my instagram (@happy.penspinning).

The MiddleAround: Like the IndexAround but you spin it around your middle finger.
You only need your ring and your middle finger to do this trick. Push the pen with your ring finger around the middle. Avoid holding your pen in the centre of the pen or to far to the side towards you body. You want to hold it at the end that is not facing your body.

The IndexAround: A trick similiar to the basic "ThumbAround" but you're spinning the pen around your index finger.
You only need your middle and your indexfinger to do this trick. Push the pen with your middlefinger around the index. Avoid holding your pen in the middle or to far to the side towards you body. You want to hold it at the end that is not facing your body.

The Infinity: One of the five basics tricks to master.
In this video I show you the Infinity. If you're petty you could say it's a combo out of so called Wipers but it's important to learn the whole trick because it will help you doing and combining other stuff you will learn in the future. In comparison it's quite easy but with a bit of practice can look pretty cool.
Also visit my YT-Channel (@happy.penspinning) and my instagram (@happy.penspinning).

The Charge: Also one of the basic tricks, often used by drummers.
In this video I show you the Charge, one of the basic tricks of Penspinning. At the beginning you might just wiggle it, but keep practicing to get a smooth round motion. Note: it's easier with longer pens or sticks.

The Sonic: Another basic trick spinning through your fingers with elegance.
In this video I show you the Sonic, one of the basic tricks of Penspinning. At the beginning a bit harder to learn but once you got it, you don't want to stop doing it. It's needed for several other tricks and combos.

The Fingerpass: Another basic Penspinning trick
In this video I show you the Fingerpass. If you're petty you could say it's a combo out of Passes but it's important to learn the whole trick because it will help you A LOT doing and combining other stuff you will learn in the future. It's often done in classes, meetings etc. With training it can be performed very smooth and even fast but don't give up early - this takes time and practice!
